Technical Author – Fixed Term Contract , Manchester (1542M)

Our award-winning and highly successful global technology client is looking for a technical author to join their technical publications team. You’ll have a proactive approach and a real appetite and enthusiasm for learning cutting-edge technology and developing new skills.

Working as part of a coordinated team, you will:

  • Research, plan and write a range of topic-based technical content for customers' developers and engineers.
  • Ensure that technical content complies with corporate and technical communications standards, and departmental processes are followed.

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • Good experience as a technical author in a technology or engineering environment.
  • A technical software and/or hardware background, writing for different, highly technical target audiences.
    • Hardware background: Familiarity with the fundamentals of computer architecture, microprocessors, basic electronics, System-on-Chip (SoC), embedded electronics.
    • Software background: Experience producing technical software documentation for developers, engineers or architects and/or programming experience. (Familiarity with programming languages/concepts will help to understand incoming/outgoing signals, state diagrams, memory and caching etc.).
  • Good knowledge of industry standard tools, technologies, and content management systems.
  • Experience with Markdown, HTML, XML, Jenkins, Git, JSON, Python or a similar scripting language; DITA is desirable.
  • A detail-oriented approach.
  • The ability to apply logical thinking and grasp technical concepts.
  • An understanding of the interaction between software and hardware is useful.
  • The ability to write abstract concepts and building technical understanding without the ability to do ‘hands-on’ testing.

Any experience of user journeys/personas would be a huge advantage!

A stimulating working environment is on offer, as is a competitive remuneration, bonus and benefits package. This is a hybrid-working role where you will need to be onsite 20% of the month in one of the following office locations: Cambridge, Manchester, Sheffield or Bristol.

This is a fixed-term contract for a year, with a view to possibly going permanent after that time.
