Information development is capturing knowledge and communicating it effectively.

The process of developing information involves:

• Understanding the users of the information and their needs
  
• Capturing and/or researching the available knowledge (not always easy!)
  
• Organising, restructuring and expressing the knowledge in a clear, simple and consistent fashion, appropriate to the needs of the audience
  
• Delivering the information in a usable format via the most appropriate tools and technologies - handbooks, reference cards, intranets, integrated within software, web sites, and so on.
